Groundhog Day (1993)
Watching Bill Murray relive the same day over and over again never gets old in this ‘90’s classic directed by Harold Ramis. Set in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, a Pittsburgh Groundhog Day centers around a television weatherman finds himself in an endless loop of the same day that repeats itself multiple times until he eventually learns to stop putting his needs first.
For the movie watcher who enjoys a good thriller, Stephen King’s Misery is a classic that will give you the chills no matter how many times you have seen this flick. Kathy Bates plays Annie Wilkes, a former nurse and crazed, self-proclaimed “#1 fan” who manages to rescue her favorite, best-selling author at the height of a winter storm. She brings novelist Paul Sheldon back to her home where she tends to his injuries. During his recovery, Paul allows Annie to read his latest novel in which the heroine is killed off. From here, Paul’s recovery takes a turn for the worse.
The Day After Tomorrow (2007)
If the weather outside seems epic or bordering on apocalyptic, why not indulge in a winter apocalypse, a science-fiction movie like The Day After Tomorrow? This movie gives its viewers a glimpse of what happens after decades of damaging the environment. If you’re in the mood for a modern day ice-age weather event movie, you will enjoy this Jake Gyllenhaal flick.
The Revenant (2015)
Man against nature and the evil that man can do never gets old and the movie The Revenant doesn’t disappoint. Set in the wilderness of 1823, Hugh Glass portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio sustains life-threatening injuries following a jaw-dropping bear attack and is left for dead by members of his hunting team. This movie moves at a slow enough pace that you can multitask and do other things if necessary. Warning viewers! This movie will make you cringe and wince a few times, but if you enjoy journey, this just might be for you.
